How can I clean a glass water feature?
I have a glass water feature that is a rectangular shape. It is hollow and the water pumps up from the bottom and cascades from a slit at the top of the glass. Green stuff (can’t remember the nam!) has started to grow inside the glass. The glass is sealed so I cannot get inside to clean it or put anything inside it. I have tried some pond clear but this just clears a patch where the water is pumped through.
Does anybody have any idea what I can use to clean this, as I am getting fed up with it now!!
The green stuff is Algae. What you can do is first remove any plants or fish that you may around the glass feature. Next mix a solution of one cup bleach to one gallon of water. Next drain as much of the old water from the fountain. Then add the bleach solution. turn the pump on and let it run through the lines. Then let it sit for about a half an hour. Then drain out the bleach water and then add clean fresh water. Drain again. Then add a mixture of half white vinegar to half water. Again run it through the fountain and let sit. Next rinse out two more times and then add fresh water. To keep the algae from returning make sure that the fountain stays running. Any time that water sets for a period of time leaves room for algae to grow and the water becomes stagnant.

I think you mean Algie (sp). I would run a container of white vinegar through it, you know, just like a coffee maker. If that doesnt work, possibly try bleach (very carefully) or see if they sell an algie cleaner possibly for fish tanks or something.

There is a product called Sparkle that is used to clear water features of algae. Does the job instantly. It costs about £6.00 and is made by TAP.
