Artificial Flowers Can be Just as Lovely as Fresh Flowers
There are several pros and cons between artificial flowers and fresh flowers. The first thing is with artificial flowers there is very little to clean, no fluids to get spilt, no soil to prune, just set it down and go about your business. Another good aspect about artificial flowers is once you have purchased it, there is no need to spend another dime buying the same thing, and it will remain for a very long time. They may require a little dusting now and then, but this can easily be achieved by wiping them with a slightly wet water cloth, or giving them a quick soak with some soapy liquid. Note not all artificial flowers can be washed with water. They will never get too long for their vases or pots as the case may be, and will certainly not need any caring for.
Artificial Flowers make a wonderful gift for someone, because they will have them long after the event is over, unlike real fresh flowers that will eventually wither and die. They might be pricey but are worth it in the long run, because it is like a medium to long term investment where you can see your moneys worth for a long time to come. Another good point to note is they are readily available, you do not need to go to the Florist to get a an arrangement, there are many shops which carry these and they come in a wide variety to suit any occasion, whether it is a promotion, or Christmas or a wedding anniversary, there are lots to choose from.
Fresh flowers on the other hand need special daily care, but they smell so nature like and look so gorgeous that some people would rather part with their money on these than on artificial flowers. Even though they know it will only last a week or two. A beautiful arrangement of say fresh carnations given to someone to celebrate a special occasion would definitely be more cherished than an artificial arrangement, because somehow it feels more personal than an arrangement of artificial flowers.
In the world of work, artificial flowers in the office certainly seems to outnumber the desire for fresh flowers. It is more wise to buy artificial flowers especially huge artificial trees, fern and palm are a good example, to beautify the office environment, without the worry of having to care for them on a daily basis and it also gets rid of the problem of coming into the office on a Monday morning only to find that the plants are almost dead because they did not receive enough water over the weekend, not to mention the problem of dead leaves and petals all over the floor.

Instead of fresh flowers has anyone done artificial flowers for a wedding? pros & cons?
I was thinking about hiring artificial flowers for the wedding. I used to think they were naff but I saw some beautiful flowers & I asked who had sent her such a lovely bouquet and she laughed and said they were artificial.
The advantage of having these for a wedding would be that you would have the certainty that the flowers are taken care of.
what are your thoughts?

If they’re fake they won’t smell good and they won’t feel nice either. Fresh flowers for sure!
edit* actually i like Joey’s idea of silk flowers they sound GORGEOUS!

I had fake flowers for my wedding and they looked just as good as the real thing. I had lillies so didn’t have to worry about the pollen stains that I would have done if they’d been real. Also I still have my bouquet (but dusty now though!!). I would vote for artificial flowers everytime

If you use artificial flowers, I recommend silk.
Pros
-less expensive
-you get to keep them
-they are easier to manage (sometimes keeping flowers fresh before a wedding is hard work)
-you can get them anytime before the wedding as they won’t go bad. you can start making your arrangements and bouquets.
cons
-they don’t smell nice and fresh
-people might think it’s cheap and tacky (but who cares about those people anyway?? It’s your day, your way.)

my sister had artificial flowers for her wedding and they were beautiful, and she still has them after ten years and they still look fab. so for me this is a great idea. there is less chance of them getting damaged in transit.
plus if they are artificial you can have them made up in advance, my sister in law had real flowers and on the day of the wedding was the first day she actually saw what the flowers looked like and she wasnt 100% on them. so thats a major downside to getting real ones, if they arent exactly what you imagined your stuffed.

Artificial flowers keep longer and they are cheaper. I used silk flowers for my wedding bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages.
It helped me save money on my wedding.

I’m having silk flowers for my wedding.. I am buying them from http://www.afloral.com I already purchased 5 of them in different colors just to see what they look like.. and they look real. I’m using gerbera daisies.. and they are a TON cheaper.. I am doing simple decorations.. but they are 59 cents a stem compared to $3 a stem for fresh..
Pros:
Cheaper (in most cases.. if you have certain flowers they can be more expensive)
You can keep them and reuse them (I’m using some in my bathroom decor and letting whoever else take some too)
You can have them made in advance and not have to worry about getting them ordered and in .. and made the few days before.
I LOVE the idea of silks.. I wouldn’t do it any other way. I have heard LOTS of people say that silks never look real.. or they cost just as much or more.. And that they don’t smell.
Well mine look awesome.. and i’ve put them to the test with quite a few people.. they have all thought they were real.. unless they got a foot from them and really looked.. and you can buy scent spray to make them smell like real flowers.. Go for it!

Artificial flowers can be used for large arrangements, and then you can use real flowers for bouquets if you wish. That way you would have the best of both worlds.

While fresh flowers are lovely on the day, it is unavoidable that they do die. If you wish to keep your wedding bouquet forever than silk flowers are the way to go.
My sister used this company for the hair pieces for her bridesmaids at her wedding, they were Absolutely fantastic! They looked very real, you couldn’t tell the difference when placed next to fresh ones. You can also purchase sent spots from the same people, so your flowers smell pretty as well.

I am using silk flowers for my wedding…I found beautiful bouquets on this site. http://www.wedideas.com
I am going through them, and getting all the flowers for my wedding for about 1/2 the price of real ones…

As long as you get the "real touch" flowers, they look real. Silk flowers can fray at the edges and end up looking really bad. Make sure you purchase them from a craft store or somewhere you can actually see them. I made the mistake of ordering online and they looked gorgeous until I got them. Thank goodness I had a Michael’s down the road!

I had fakes for my wedding — as a matter of fact, I made all the bouquets, corsages, bouttienieres, and table arrangements myself…
They were gorgeous!!!
I got loads of comments on them!
I don’t see the point of paying so much for real ones, when you can keep the fakes forever…

my mum had artificial flowers for her wedding, because my parents got married on bank holiday monday and all the shops were closed!
They look very realistic, especially in the photos, and the best part is, that she got to keep them afterwards!! We still have them in our dining room; they still look beautiful.
Plus, you know they’re taken care of, you know there won’t be a mix up and you know you’ll get the exact flowers you want even if they’re out of season!
congrats!

I had fake flowers for my bouquet, the bridesmaid bouquets and the boutineers. I am highly sensitive to the smell of certain flowers when they are within a certain range so it wasnt really an option for me to have real flowers. Plus, they were a hell of a lot cheaper. I got them off of EBAY from a seller called "Yessss-I-Do". Got 6 bridesmaid bouquets, 1 bridal bouquet, 1 toss bouquet, 4 coursages, and 10 boutineers for $175 including shipping. The flowers were gorgeous. I definitely would recommend them.
But for the reception we did have small arrangements of fresh flowers/roses throughout. We just went to some local flower shops a couple days before the wedding and bought a bunch of roses (at only $10/dozen which is not bad at all) and did simple arrangements of roses on the tables. We also got a lot of the baby rose buds and we got a huge bouquet of at least 30 of those for only $8. That one went far in decorating tables.
We spent a total of $400 on flowers, both fresh and fake, and we did the work ourselves to make "arrangements’ and it worked out quite well. We were able to also store the fresh flowers in the fridge at the right temp though because my parents had an extra fridge that they weren’t using in their garage, so that allowed them to stay fresher.

All my flowers were artificial. They were stunning though, I got them from the same place as Joey.
Pros are
Cheaper
Get to keep them forever
Much sturdier, doesn’t matter if a little flower girl drops her bouquet
Can’t think of any cons
Good luck with your big day!
